I have already written a post for my list of must have softwares. I’ve now decided to share how I use my machine.
\nIn this post I will post my usage and maintenance methods for personal computer. I hope this post will help you in getting great usage experience after following it.<\/p>\n

I’m a PC Freak! I like my computer to be fast, quick and handy. I don’t much like to use mouse and love to finish as many things possible by Keyboard only. If you’re not already following, I recommend these regular computer practices.<\/p>\n

1. I Use Shortcuts<\/h2>\n

I have shortcuts for all my regularly used tools. For example my regular shortcuts are:<\/p>\n

Putty: Ctrl+Alt+P
\nNotepad: Ctrl+Alt+N
\nWinamp: Ctrl+Alt+M
\nEditplus: Ctrl+Alt+Num+
\nQuery Brower: Ctrl+Alt+Q
\nWinSCP: Ctrl+Alt+V
\nWordweb: Ctrl+Alt+W
\nPaint: Ctrl+Alt+Num1
\nWord: Ctrl+Alt+Num2
\nExcel: Ctrl+Alt+Num3
\nGtalk: Ctrl+Alt+G
\nFirefox: Ctrl+Alt+F
\nChrome: Ctrl+Alt+C
\nEpic: Ctrl+Alt+E<\/p>\n

It’s quite simple to create shortcuts like this.<\/p>\n

Start > Program > your-program > executable (Shortcut) > right click > Properties > Specify Shortcut<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. I Clean My Desktop<\/h2>\n

Normally my machine has a black background \/ “beautiful” picture (you cannot take your eyes off) with no desktop icons \ud83d\ude42
\nTo remove all desktop icons I do:
\nRight Click on Desktop > Arrange Icons By > Uncheck Show Desktop Icon<\/strong>

3. I Use More Shortcuts<\/h2>\n

There are many basic and regularly used shortcuts I use regularly:
\nMinimize all windows: Flag+M
\nSwitch between windows: Alt+Tab
\nSwitch reverse: Alt+Shift+Tab (I think this is little less known)
\nOn Windows Vista \/ Win7 system you get more animated Flat+Tab buttons.<\/p>\n

… and I use even more shortcuts… seems like I need to dedicate one post for shortcuts \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

4. I Do Save Power and Follow Security<\/h2>\n

When ever I go away, I lock (Ctrl+L) my machine <\/strong>and turn my monitor off. Well, it saves power too \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Also,<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Right-click the desktop > click Properties.
\n<\/strong>In the Display Properties dialog box > click the Screen Saver tab > click the Power button.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can set your power options respectively.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

5. I Hate Automatic Updates<\/h2>\n

I make sure my windows automatic update is turned off.
\nGo to System Properties [Flag+Break] > Automatic Updates > Turn off Automatic Updates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6. I Get Back to Work Quickly-Hibernate<\/h2>\n

I do also enable Hibernate. Hibernation will save your current session in memory and shuts your computer. But it provides instant startup \ud83d\ude42
\nStart > Control Panel > Power Options Properties > Hibernete Tab > Check Enable Hibernate.<\/strong>

7. I Don’t Start Unnecessary Things<\/h2>\n

Remove unnecessary startup:
\nStart > Run [Flag+R]
\nType “msconfig” and press enter. This will open ‘System Configuration Utility’.
\nOn ‘Startup’ tab I uncheck unnecessary services.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 I Check And Stop Unnecessary Services<\/h2>\n

Also I make sure no unnecessary service consume my machine’s memory by disabling them. Eg. I Disable ‘Automatic Updates’.
\nStart > Run [Flag+R]
\nservices.msc<\/p>\n

9. I Don’t System Restore<\/h2>\n

System Restore is something that stores changes to my machine and enables restore it to particular point. But I disable it. It saves memory and risk of restoration of Viruses, in case. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

10. I Defragment<\/h2>\n

I also defragment my drives approx once a month.
\nStart > Run [Flag+R]
