UMASK & UMASK_DIR – changing default MySQL file dir permissions
UMASK and UMASK_DIR are amongst few MySQL Environment variables which defines directory and file creation modes (file permissions). In this post we will understand using UMASK & UMASK_DIR for changing the database directory and file permissions from it’s default to what we need.

Hi, I need some help managing user to start MariaDB.
In my case I make a clean installation and is installed in /var/lib/mysql and the owner of the files and folder is mysql:mysql.
I’ve created another user ‘mariadb’, then I want to change owner of data to mariadb:mariadb. If i change all by ‘chown -R..’ under ../mysql/ path I can’t start the process.
Another thing I need to do is change the path and create a symbolic link from the /var/lib/mysql to the new path. But its not work also with the mysql:mysql owner.
How must be the best practice to do it? Thanks
