Extreme Movie Review – Dum Maro Dum (2011)

And finally, Rohan Sippy’s “Dum Maaro Dum” ended the series of poor movies in 2011.

The best parts of the movie are Direction & Music, alongwith the good mixture of new characters and cool set of dialogues / one-liners. The way of story-telling and great back-ground music (by Midival Punditz) have added to it a lot.

Main Characters of Dum Maro Dum:
Prateik Babbar as Lorry
Abhishek Bachchan as ACP Vishnu Kamath
Rana Daggubati as DJ Joki
Bipasha Basu as Zoe
Aditya Pancholi as Lorsa Biscuta aka the Biscuit
Govind Namdeo as Rane
& ofcourse ‘Micheal Barbosa’

Lorry is a young scholar & footballer who couldn’t go with his girl-friend for studies in USA due to insufficient funds. Lorry’s friend Ricky tricks him to get involved in to drug smuggling in lieu of money.
ACP Vishnu Kamath is a regretting police officer who lost his family in an accident due to his corrupted ignorance towards drugs & thus now totally against drugs and all.
DJ Joki is a musician but someone who has got his aspiring girl-friend, Zoe, “spoiled” to a drug mafia, Biscuit.
Biscuit / Lorsa Biscuta is a point person between all the various Mafias all over in Goa.

ACP Kamath along with “selected cops” catches Lorry on airport with the drugs while DJ Joki tries to help Lorry and work with Kamath to find out ‘Micheal Barbosa’. The story revolves around these characters how they find out who ‘Micheal Barbosa’ is and saves Lorry.
The film has got good suspense and definitely nothing annoying! 🙂

Also a lot has been talked about Dipika Padukone and her skirt and her performance in ‘Dum Maro Dum’ title number!! There is NOTHING special or impressive about it; don’t believe the hype. But definitely the song Dum Maro Dum is great with lively beats and vocals.

The movie could have been much more successful and hit if Rohan Sippy’d have done “something” to DJ Joki and improved ending a bit!!
Zoe’s “character” & character in the movie was weak or can say not well written – in a poor dialogue when Zoe blames DJ Joki for her present.
DJ Joki’s character should have been little powerful!!
Abhishek has done a good acting as well as nice RAP Number in song ‘thayn thayn’. Govind Namdeo and Aditya Pancholi were good in their roles.

Rana Daggubati has got his bollywood-debut and his appearance is good in the movie – seems a promising star.
Angaraag Mahnata AKA Papon’s song ‘Jiyein Kyun’ is greatly sung and it keeps playing through-out the movie is splendid. Pritam Chakraborty’s music is great.
Almost all songs are nice but my favourite is ‘Jiyein Kyun’.

Movie has got some good dialogues, I’d like to list a couple of them:
“Jab zameer bikta hai tab jindagi bhi soot samet wasul karti hai”

“Mein sirf duty pe peeta hoon. Apne municipality bhaiyon se seekho, hamesha do-teen laga ke hi gutter mein ghuste hain”

“kehte hai jab koi marta hai toh jannat jata hai… par jab koi GOA mein marta hai toh kahin nahi jata…”

Also to note that this is the first bollywood film to be recorded in Dolby Surround 7.1, and hence the better music effect!

Well, it’s a good movie and for sure you can watch it!
BUT WAIT!! It’s given A certificate by sensor board; so better avoid it with family. 🙂
